Located near an idyllic park setting next to the Sugar River, the Mill Paoli is just minutes away from Madison. The mill was built in 1864 when Peter W. Matts founded the hamlet of Paoli. This stone grist mill has soaring 15ft ceilings, original fittings, and luxurious finishes. On the private second level, you will be greeted by Chesterfield sofas, a large bar area, and comfortable beds. Guests of The Mill House Retreat are welcome to invite friends over to enjoy the setting and reconnect. Within walking distance of bike trails, art galleries, live music, restaurants, and bars Paoli is the perfect setting to relax and refresh.

The second-floor retreat has a custom 17-foot breakfast bar for entertaining, comfortable seating areas, and beautiful architecture. Enjoy our 65" smart tv. The space, though private, is above a functioning active business and during store hours some noise can be heard as there is no actual door to close, but a large stairwell that provides complete visual privacy.

The Mill House Retreat is located above a charming vintage shop where you can enjoy some treasure hunting, wine tasting, or cocktails. Our store generally does not open until 9 am and is usually closed by 9 pm. We are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays for the entire day. On occasion, if we have to, we do pass through the living room space, this happens very rarely but much of the electrical is located on the third floor. We make sure that we announce ourselves and try to avoid doing it if possible. Please note, that the steps to the mill are historical as is the mill, they are steep.

We have amazing food, art, and music in Paoli. You can walk through town and enjoy little gift shops, wine, and spirit tastings (yes, that means whiskey, scotch, gin, vodka, and more), well-known artists, and fly fishing on the Sugar River. We also have canoe and kayak trips available! A plethora of bike trails that lead to Madison, New Glarus, and the surrounding areas are just minutes away. From May through October, we host music and events in our historic park, and on Sunday mornings you can enjoy our Farmers Market from 9 am-1 pm at The Mill. The Millhouse Retreat truly is a place to rest, relax, and reset. We can’t wait for you to experience it!
